Each year, missionary religious congregations and lay mission organisations such as VMM in England, Wales and Scotland are assigned a diocese by the Catholic Bishops’ Conferences to promote its international mission work and appeal for financial support and prayers for their various needs and ministries.
This is a wonderful opportunity for us to reach out to people across the UK and share about the positive impact VMM is having in the lives of the marginalised and those living in poverty through the volunteer work of our qualified volunteer personnel.
Apart from the monetary gain we obtain from the appeals programme, which in turn plays a vital role in assisting the organisation, we also receive inquiries in relation to international volunteering.
Prior to our parish visit, a lot of work happens behind the scenes. The VMM Appeals Office in Liverpool carries out this administrative work for England & Wales. Our coordinator, Louisa Preston has been working with us since 2008 and is a devoted member of our team. Louisa coordinates those returned volunteers to assist in the appeals process and has an inspirational team of people.
In Scotland the mission appeals for VMM are coordinated by member, Joan McErlean, working through Missio Scotland and assisted by a team of returned VM’s.
The parish appeal programme has proved to be a vital financial lifeline for our work both at home and abroad. We are always searching for additional volunteers to assist so the programme remains self-funding and sustainable in the coming years. Please email us if you can help.
VMM gratefully acknowledges the support of the various dioceses, parishes, volunteers and donors who continue to offer their support each year. Every donation, whether large or small, makes a big difference to what we can achieve.
